Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDAs)

When your building traps the signal, BDAs enable first responder radio communications to break through.

Improve Communication Anywhere on Your Property

Bi-directional Amplifiers (BDAs) are essential for enhancing in-building radio and cellular signal coverage, ensuring that emergency responders, building occupants, and critical systems stay connected when it matters most. Whether you manage a high-rise building, hospital, or warehouse, BDAs are a critical investment for seamless emergency communications and compliance with public safety codes.

What Are BDAs?

BDA systems are signal-boosting solutions designed to enhance and amplify emergency responder communication signals within buildings. BDAs capture weak signals from an external antenna, amplify them, and rebroadcast the stronger signal inside the building.

Simultaneously, they take internal signals and boost them back to the external network. This bidirectional process ensures seamless communication between emergency responders inside and outside the building.

The result is that critical communication systems remain operational in areas where signals may be weak or obstructed, such as basements, stairwells, or across large facilities.

Choose an Industry Leader

In 2019, Prestige Alarm™ was one of the first companies to install a next-generation BDA system in Alabama.

Key Features of BDAs

Signal Enhancement

Boosts the first responder radio frequency signals across areas with little to no signal.

Public Safety Support

Ensures compliance with Emergency Responder Radio Coverage (ERRC) codes.

Customizable Solutions

Can be tailored to fit the size, layout, and needs of your building.

Reliable Communication

Reduces dead zones and improves the clarity of communication for first responders.

Designing and Installing a BDA System

Design, installation, and configuration by experienced professionals are keys to maximizing the effectiveness of a BDA system. Our Prestige Alarm™ team ensures your BDA system is:

Fully compliant with local, state, and federal codes.

Integrated seamlessly with the rest of your commercial property’s fire and life safety system.

Designed to address your building’s specific needs and complement your existing systems.

Tested and certified to ensure optimal performance.

What Buildings Require a BDA System

For new construction, most city regulations require BDA system surveys to determine whether a BDA system is required. BDAs are essential for buildings and facilities with radio frequency signal challenges, including:

Large or Tall Structures

High-rise apartment buildings, hotels, warehouses, shopping malls and large campuses

Complex Structures

Hospitals, schools, airports, campuses, resorts, and data centers

Public Assembly Areas

Convention centers, theaters, event spaces, and sports arenas

Underground Structures

Parking garages, basements, and tunnels

Certain Building Products

Concrete, metal, and low-E glass windows

National Impact of Poor In-Building Coverage

According to the 2023 Safecom Nationwide Survey of Public Safety Organizations by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), poor coverage ranks as the first and third (indoor and outdoor, respectively) most common factors affecting emergency communications nationwide. More than 65% of the organizations nationwide reported “some” or “great” as the extent to which poor in-building coverage impacts their communications.
